Winder celebrated Memorial Day on Monday morning at Rose Hill Cemetery, honoring all of the local military personnel who gave their lives for their country.

The annual event is hosted by the Veteran of Foreign Wars 1187 and its Ladies Auxiliary, who handed out poppies to those who attended.

Joel Ash gave the welcome, Richard Knight served as Master of Ceremonies, the Winder Fire and Police Department color guards posted the colors and Rev. Edward Price, from White Oak Spring Missionary Baptist, gave the opening prayer.

A number of community members then read the names of those Barrow County residents who perished in the line of duty from World War I to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Carol Ann Grealish and Johnny Smith performed the Laying of the Wreath and JROTC cadets from both Apalachee and Winder-Barrow High also participated.
