For the second time this season, the Apalachee Wildcats had a chance at breaking the streak stolen away from them in the waning seconds of a region loss. The Heritage Patriots needed a 15-yard touchdown pass with about half a minute to play to beat Apalachee 35-28 in Conyers Friday night, extending Apalachee’s losing streak to 18 games.

Despite a solid start to the season, some fans voiced concerns that Mason should sit in favor of another quarterback. With talks of a rotation, few people would have expected Heisman hopeful Todd Gurley to be that other option, but his presence as a wildcat quarterback gave the Georgia Bulldogs a shot in the arm on offense on their way to a 44-17 SEC win over Vanderbilt.

Barrow alumni meet in Atlanta

A couple of Barrow County kids got to square off on the turf of the Georgia Dome Saturday as Apalachee alum Jon Lee and Winder-Barrow grad Chandon Sullivan suited up for the Air Force Falcons and Georgia State Panthers football teams respectively. Lee’s Falcons came out on top with the highly offensive 48-38 win, and getting a win in his home state was all the reason the former Wildcat needed to celebrate.
