Barrow prepares for inclement weather

Barrow County Emergency Services opened its’ Emergency Operations Center at 8AM this morning and will be on alert for the next 24-36 hours for possible winter weather emergency. “All county agencies met for a briefing and will be working their emergency winter storm preparedness as necessary, “stated Chief John Skinner. “All departments are working together to keep the citizens as safe as possible.”

As of 9:45am this morning (Friday 2-20-15) the Red Cross Shelter was closed, BCES announced. The Shelter equipment and staff will remain on standby in case they are needed for this next system that is coming through tonight.

Fallen Tree Causing Road Problems In Barrow County

Barrow County Emergency Services is advising citizens to use caution if driving on roadways in Barrow County this morning. “The best option is to stay off the roads if possible for the next several hours,” stated Lieutenant Scott Dakin. “If you must drive please slow down and be aware of your surroundings. There are numerous trees and power lines down across the roadways and some reports of icy conditions.”
