Cross-county routes to provide some transportation options for drivers, especially tractor-trailer drivers, are presented in the Barrow County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) supplemental study which is now under review.
Consultant Marta Rosen of Jacobs Carter Burgess presented an overview of the study at the June 10 meeting of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, and the board is examining the proposed projects which suggest options to improve traffic in and around Barrow and especially its county seat, Winder.
With the Georgia Department of Transportation's staggering shortfall between project promises and dollars available for those projects, Barrow County can't simply look to the state and wait for traffic solutions to come. Communities across the state have been told patience will be a necessary virtue.
This study puts the traffic counts on paper to show which roadways and highways could be part of the solution Barrow seeks to ease the congestion which puts transportation woes at the top of most citizens' complaint list.
The study's proposals are expensive and will require close evaluation. Will the projects indeed help move traffic to where it needs to go?
