COMMUNITY
Caretakers are getting special attention at this year's Relay for Life celebration taking place May 16-17, but the celebration of survivors and the remembrance of those who have lost their battle with cancer will remain a centerpiece.
For those who knew the late Colleen O. Williams, saying she was a caretaker is an understatement. She was one of those individuals who cared for her family, her church, her community and its history, its buildings and the secrets they held and still hold and its potential.
Lindsay Lipscomb, one of her talented daughters, recorded a CD in her mama's memory. Other talented daughter, Meredith Cameron, was kind enough to deliver a copy so that just as their mother was a treasure and her memory remains an inspiration, this music will no doubt be as well.
"It was done in memory of Mama and features all of her favorites - everything from Ragtime to Pop to Patriotic to Gospel to Broadway," Meredith says. She credits a man in Lindsay's church in Greensboro with financing the recording so that all proceeds from the $20 sale of the CD can go to Relay for Life.
Even when her days were short, Colleen could see the good in most everything and everyone - even when others had given up being a cheerleader. Even though she's gone to her heavenly reward, she still inspires and with this CD can make hearts sing.
