Winder-Barrow High School senior Chelsea Jenkins has always set high goals for herself. Since sixth grade, Jenkins has been working toward being named valedictorian or salutatorian (she will graduate as salutatorian this May). One title she never aimed for was the STAR award, but that didn’t keep Jenkins from receiving the honor last December.

MENTORS
Every day Barrow County students meet with mentors who provide them a non-threatening relationship and a listening ear. Many mentors in Barrow County are school staff and administrators and community leaders, but each high school also takes groups of older students to mentor children at the elementary and middle school level.

Lanier Technical College will be giving the National League of Nursing (NLN) tests March 30 at the Forsyth Campus and March 31 at the Oakwood Campus for students who have been accepted to Lanier Tech and are interested in admission to the Practical Nursing or Surgical Tech program.

Winder-Barrow High School HOSA, Health Occupations Students of America, recently attended the State Leadership and Competitive Events Conference in Athens. The competitive events consist of written exams, oral competitions, healthcare skills and team events. Emily Wilkins won first place in the Sports Medicine event.   Barrow County Schools hosted an open house March 4 prior to the rescheduled Board of Education meeting to celebrate the new transportation building. Office workers moved in to the building Jan. 6, but flooring problems kept buses and maintenance crews out of the building until Feb. 26. WBHS student hit by car
Dante Jones, a sophomore at Winder-Barrow High School, was struck by a car while crossing to board the bus this morning. He sustained a broken leg, as well as cuts and bruises.
