Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 2119 Hwy. 82 on Wednesday when a worker tried to start a John Deer Excavator and it failed to run because 78 gallons of diesel fuel had been siphoned from the fuel tank.
David Bray of Ceds Construction Co. called police when one of his workers tried to start the excavator and it only ran for a moment before shutting off. Bray walked over to the fuel tank and noticed that someone had opened the tank and siphoned the fuel from the tractor.
The total estimated value of fuel taken was $312.
The excavator had been placed in an open field on Oct. 15 on Hwy. 82.
On an unknown date one of the workers noticed a white Suburban parked next to the excavator. No one was inside the Suburban at the time that it was noticed.
There are no suspects at this time and the case is under investigation.
