Grassroots efforts can make Barrow better

To the editor:

With the focus shifting from health care to job, the creation of a non-profit organization with the sole mission of "Cleaner roads today and tomorrow" would add jobs to our economy.

One obstacle in the minds of people, when it comes to paying for cleaner roads, is that our taxes should be doing just that. The fact is our roads remain with litter and debris on them. Even in a healthy economy, our roads are in need of cleaning. A poor economy exacerbates the problem.

The manpower it would take to clean and maintain our roads, of litter and debris, would add a significant number of jobs to our local economy. The number of jobs for a state and national effort can only be in the thousands.

Jobs that pay well and last, created from a public and private partnership, are just one benefit of free enterprise, that the government with all its – i.e. our – tax stimulus handouts cannot match.

Grassroots is what I am talking about. Ingenuity, creativity and free enterprise are what made this nation great. Individuals pulling together for the benefit of all – that’s the American ideal.

The depth of detail needed for this effort cannot be expressed in a single letter. This can be an exciting time of innovation and renewal. Like-minded individuals that are ready to roll up their sleeves and get something done can contact me at (678) 863-1524.

Sincerely,

Mark Wilson
