Mr. and Mrs. Michael Strickland of Winder and Judy Strickland of Wichita, Kansas, announce the engagement of their daughter, Rebecca Strickland, of Chicago, Illinois, to Darrin McCowan of Chicago, son of Patrick McCowan of Kappa, Illinois, and Barb McCowan of Bloomington, Illinois.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Ada
Hathaway of Winder and
Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Strickland of Claxton. She is a graduate of Wichita High School Northwest and earned a Bachelor’s of Art from
the University of Georgia. She studied in Germany for a year under a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship and studied graphic design at Portfolio Center in
Atlanta. She is employed
at Levy Restaurants and is a graphic designer.

The future groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Swank and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McCowan, all of Bloomington, Illinois. He is a graduate of Normal Community High School and earned at Bachelor of Arts from Illinois State University. He studied culinary arts at Kendall College in Chicago. He is the chef of Epic Restaurant.

The couple plan their wedding for May 29, 2010 at her parents’ home in Winder with a reception to follow.
