Barrow County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Justin Baber, 18, just before midnight Feb. 5 in connection with the homicide discovered earlier on Friday.

Baber is charged with possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, aggravated assault, felony murder, malice murder and tampering with evidence. He was arrested without incident after investigators obtained enough evidence to substantiate the charges against him.

The victim, Marty Wilson, 50, was a resident of Winder. He died of knife wounds he received as a result of an altercation with the suspect early in the morning of Feb. 5 at 1058 Clacktown Road, the suspect’s residence. Wilson was an invited guest, reports show.

A Friday morning call went into Central Communications reporting an unresponsive person at a Clacktown Road address, and authorities were called to the location. Deputy Coroner Robbie Black was on the scene.

Details related to the altercation are still under investigation. Heading the investigation is Freida Harwell with Sgt. Faye Spaulding assisting.

After Baber assaulted the victim with the knife, he fled the scene with the murder weapon. Baber is also charged with tampering with evidence for attempting to conceal the discovery of the murder weapon.

Investigators were able to obtain the evidence after receiving tips from witnesses in the case.

The investigation remains ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
