ATLANTA – On Saturday the Swim Doggs finished their regular season at the Metro Atlanta Championships held at Wesminster High School.
For four swimmers on the boys team, the meet was a preview of the state tournament, which will be held in the same pool in two weeks.
Mitchell Buttler, Daniel Dean, Ryan Weathers and Billy Hentenaar qualified for state weeks ago in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Buttler also qualified in the 100 backstroke.
Clara Moody won’t be back in two weeks, but she took advantage of her time last weekend and broke another school record.
Buttler didn’t break a record, but he showed phenomenal consistency in the 100 backstroke, as he recorded the exact same time in the finals as he did in the preliminary stage.
“He couldn’t do that again if he tried,” said WBHS Head Coach Jennifer Blevins.
Buttler and his relay teammates will need to be more than consistent to place high at the State Tournament. But judging by the historic season they have had thus far, a top-10 finish might just be a possibility.
The state swim meet will be held February 11-13.
