County Line Elementary earns ‘Bronze’ for student chievement improvement

County Line Elementary School has recently been honored by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement as one of a small percentage of schools in Georgia demonstrating the most consistent progress in improving student achievement.

Each year, the Office of Student Achievement honors select schools in Georgia that have demonstrated either significant improvement in student achievement or consistently high proficiency levels under the Single Statewide Accountability Program (SSAS).

The SSAS program awards are based on performances on standardized test scores. When providing awards schools are classified into two groups, "Greatest Gain" and "Highest Percentage." Within these categories schools are given one of four designations – Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze – depending on the extent of their performance.

County Line received a Bronze award in the "Greatest Gain" category. In order to receive this designation the following criteria had to be satisfied.

• School could not be on "Needs Improvement" status as defined by No Child Left Behind

• At least 20 percent of students had to reach the "Exceeds" designation on all areas of the Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT)

• County Line had to finish in the 95th percentile or higher among Georgia schools in greatest achievement gains

All of these achievements were measured over a two-year period. Overall in the State of Georgia, only 12 other elementary Schools earned the "Bronze" designation in the improvement category.

To honor the achievement, County Line will be sent a banner that can be displayed at the school.

The last time a Barrow School was honored by SSAS was Winder-Barrow High School, which won a Platinum award in 2006.

County Line Principal Dr. Chris McMichael said, "This is a recognition well deserved and well earned by these teachers and staff. The faculty of County Line is a credit to the profession and to the Barrow School System. Their teamwork and caring for this school, community and above all the children they serve is, in my humble opinion, unmatched anywhere."
