State Senate 47th race down to 3

The 47th State Senatorial race lost another announced candidate with the annoucement by Frank Ginn that he will not officially qualify to seek the seat currently held by Ralph Hudgens.

Kenney Weaver announced Nov. 17 that he was officially withdrawing from the 47th State Senatorial race, leaving Braselton Mayor Pat Graham, Kelly Gary of Hoschton and Shane Coley of Winder as announced canddidates expected to qualify for the District 47 Senate race in April.

For both Ginn and Weaver, family was the deciding factor with the Ginn family coping with the loss of a child and the Weavers welcoming their first.

Ralph Hudgens is campaigning for State Insurance Commissioner.

"On July 26, I announced my candidacy for State Senate District 47," said Ginn, who has spent most of his adult life in public service. "I was humbled by the support received and appreciate my employer helping me structure a transition beneficial to Franklin County taxpayers.

"I was excited by the chance to have a stronger voice in shaping Georgia’s future," said Ginn, "However, on Aug. 26 tragedy struck my family and our world was turned upside down. My family and I have been dealing with the loss of our son as best we can.

"The support we’ve received from friends, near and far, has brought us great comfort," said Ginn. "Words cannot express our appreciation for the thoughts and prayers from which we have benefited."

Ginn made his announcement in a statement issued on Saturday.

"It is with great regret that I withdraw as a candidate for State Senate. When I and my family are ready, I look forward to finding other ways to serve the people of the State of Georgia," said Ginn.

Weaver said he is committed to continuing to support the Republican Party and continue to work individually towards the political goals that have been the keystones of his campaign.
