Following the lead of Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, Winder Mayor Chip Thompson also proclaimed Nov. 1 as Retired Educators Day.

With more than 82,000 retired educators in Georgia who donate thousands of hours of volunteer service and make invaluable contributions to the welfare of the community, Thompson proclaimed the retired educators in the local community continue to make an impression and are deserving of recognition.

Also in recognition of the occasion, the book, "Reflections of Georgia Educators II "- A collection of Stories From the Twentieth Century, was presented to The Barrow County Historical Society for the Museum Research Library by Barrow County Retired Educators President Jan Reddish.

Georgia Retired Educators from across the state have written of their experiences in education. Book Two has been a labor of love of the History and Archives Committee to continue to gather and preserve the stories of Georgia Educators and to once again share some of the stories in Reflections Book One. Among those shared from Book One for district XIV are articles from local educators, C. Fred Ingram, Mcarcelle McDonald and John Peterman.

Accepting the book was Sara Pope on behalf of the Historical Society. It will be placed in the museum for patrons who would like to read these stories in the research library.

The Barrow County Museum is open weekdays 1-4 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call (770) 307-1183 for appointments.
