Merlin Cain advances to FFA area competition in ag electrification

Winder-Barrow FFA member Merlin Cain recently placed first in the Chapter FFA Agricultural Electrification Career Development Event.

The event was held at in the Ag Mechanics shop at Winder-Barrow High School on Friday, Oct. 30.

Participants in the Chapter FFA Agricultural Electrification Career Development Event demonstrate the proper use of electrical tools and complete an assigned wiring problem based on The National Electrical Code.

The Area II competition will be held on Dec. 12 at the Jackson EMC facility in Jefferson where students will also have to be able to present a speech/demonstration on an electrical energy-related topic and answer problem solving questions pertaining to electrical wiring and rural electrification.

FFA is a national organization of more than 500,000 members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. FFA is an integral part of the agricultural education program in public schools. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

Cain, a senior, is the son of Wesley and Pennie Cain of Statham. Tonia Harbin is the Winder-Barrow FFA advisor. This is the second year Merlin has placed first in the chapter competition.

The FFA Agricultural Electrification Career Development Event is sponsored by Georgia’s Electric Membership Corporations as a special project of the Georgia FFA Foundation.
