Wind advisory issued
Ida pushes winds across area

Wind advisory for Barrow has been extended to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The advisory was announced Tuesday at 6 a.m. by the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, and was originally in effect until 7 a.m.

The advisory, which was passed on by Barrow County Emergency Management Agency Deputy Jimmy Terrell, covers all of north and central Georgia.

As Tropical Storm Ida made landfall along the central Gulf Coast, the remnants of the storm moved east across the Florida panhandle. An area of strong high pressure over the Western Atlantic brought winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph.

Additionally, as widespread rain continued, flash flood watches went out for portions of central Georgia, East Central Georgia, North Central Georgia, Northeast Georgia, northwest Georgia and west central Georgia. The watch was to expire at 7 a.m. today, however, rivers and creeks across the area are experiencing minor to moderate flooding. Some creeks and rivers will continue to rise although rainfall should taper off to only a light rain.
