The Barrow County Administrative Annex was a happy place for Bob Dixon Tursday night.

Dixon defeated incumbent Mike Mingus in the Winder City Council meeting by a margin of 513-192.

“I feel great,” Dixon told the Barrow County News, thanking his friends and wife, who he said had done a terrific job helping campaign for him.

The other contested race in Winder, between Sonny Morris and Don Graden, ended with Morris’ victory. The final tally for that race was 138-22.

Morris has been on the Winder City Council for 23 years.

Ridley Parrish ran uncontested.

With what may have been a record turnout for an “off-year election,” 711 votes were made, which is 10.95 percent of Winder’s registered voters.

Barrow County Elections Director Kristi Royston, who headed up the Winder election, said she was pleased with how the voting went.

She said the amount of people had exceeded her expectations.
