The Barrow County Board of Commissioners is set to approve the 2010 fiscal year millage rate Tuesday. Chairman Danny Yearwood told the board last month that he intends to keep the millage rate at 9.338, where it’s been since 2006.
The rate for the City of Winder is tentatively set at 7.182, slightly lower than the county’s rate because the city provides its own fire protection and therefore doesn’t need to levy the fire tax.
Statham and Auburn, the only two cities in the county that have ad valorem taxes, have yet to approve their millage rates. Statham will likely take it up at its Oct. 20 meeting, and Auburn goes to workshop at its Oct. 15 meeting and will likely vote on it in early November.
The Barrow County Board of Education has also kept the same millage rate since 2006. It is set to adopt its 18.5 mill rate Tuesday as well.
For a $100,000 home located outside Winder, Statham and Auburn, property taxes will be $1,113.52. Property taxes on a $100,000 home inside Winder’s citylimits would come to $1,027.28.
The Board of Commissioners is also set to vote on health board and Division of Family and Children Services board appointments.
Human Resources Director Norma Jean Brown will make a presentation on moving GIS from the Tax Assessors Office to the Community and Development Department.
Town of Bethlehem Councilman Scott Morgan is scheduled to address
the board about property maintenance in Bethle-
hem.
The Board of Education meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Professional Development Center, and the Board of Commissioners will meet at 7 p.m.
