North Georgia College & State University

North Georgia College & State University conferred more than 600 graduate and undergraduate degrees during the May 2009 commencement ceremonies.

North Georgia College & State University, the second oldest public university in the state, is the Military College of Georgia – one of only six senior military colleges in the nation. The university, founded in 1873 in Dahlonega, enrolls more than 5,000 students and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 50 academic and professional fields.

Students from Barrow County and their degrees include:

From Auburn - Erica Humphrey, Bachelor’s of Special Education;

From Bethlehem - Desirae Carroll, Bachelor’s of Marketing;

From Winder – Whitney Bailey, Bachelor’s of Athletic Training; Jennifer Collins, Bachelor’s of Psychology; Elizabeth Dukes, Associate’s of Nursing; Jacqueline Dupont, Associate’s of Nurs
ing; Monica Jarrard,
Master’s of Early Childhood Education; Sarah McKay, Bachelor’s of Physical Education; Gini Morgan, Master’s of Special Education; and Katherine Wolf, Bachelor’s of Sociology.

Piedmont College

Among the 429 students receiving degrees from Piedmont College at the recent May commencement ceremonies were eight Barrow County residents.

The graduates include from Auburn, Martella Ali Reid, Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree.

From Statham graduates include Lelia Guercia, Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in secondary English education; Josh Hendrix, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in business administration with honors; Jagganatha "Jack" Lefebvre, B.A. in business administration with high honors; and Jimmieann Turner, B.A. in middle grades education with highest honors. Hendrix, Lefebvre and Turner attended the Piedmont Athens campus.

From Winder, graduates include James Bell, B.A. in middle grades education with high honors; Emilee Kellar, B.A. in business administration with honors; and Daniel Jonathan Wood, B.A. in philosophy and religion. Kellar and Bell attended the Athens campus.

Piedmont College is an independent liberal arts college of about 2,000 students with campuses located in Demorest and Athens. Founded in 1897, the college offers undergraduate degrees in 32 major areas, master’s degrees in education and business, and a doctorate degree in education.
