The Barrow County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a number of events during the month of May.
On Tuesday, May 5, the Chamber will host its monthly membership meeting.
This month’s meeting will be a breakfast sponsored by Republic Services. The meal will begin at 7:45 a.m. at the Barrow County Leisure Services in Winder.
Phil Foil, head of the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority will be the guest speaker.
GEFA provides financing for water and sewer infrastructure projects, reservoirs, energy efficiency, state fuel tanks and solid waste projects.
Foil, as the executive director, also is a member of the Georgia Water Council and the Georgia Unified Drought Command.
He was previously deputy commissioner for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, where he managed agency operations and served as the department’s federal affairs and congressional liaison.
In addition to the regular monthly meeting, Network Barrow will take place Fridays, from 10:45 a.m. - noon. The event is a networking opportunity for businesses in the county.
The first Friday of the month — May 8 — will host a guest speaker. The cost is $5 and the meeting takes place at the new J.D. Withers Building in Auburn.
May also holds the Chamber’s ninth annual golf tournament. The tournament will take place May 12 at the Georgia Club.
The classic, presented by The Peoples Bank, has a 9 a.m. start time.
The Georgia Club is located at 1050 Chancellors Drive in Statham.
There are various levels of sponsorship that businesses can participate in, and can play the tournament as teams.
For the businesswomen in Barrow, the monthly Women in Business meeting will take place at 11:30 a.m. on May 13 at The Hostess House.
Mayor Pat Graham from Braselton will be the guest speaker.
The Lunch and Learn Seminar will be on May 19, and Carol McDonnell will be speaking on the topic "Surviving Tips for Tough Times: 10 Mistakes Businesses Make in Tough Times."
The lunch will take place at the Chamber office from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on May 19. There is a $10 fee. Call the Chamber to RSVP.
The new membership lunch reception will take place on May 21 at the Chamber offices at noon.
