A woman was struck by a car in the parking lot of Dakota’s Bar and Grill on April 14 after a man allegedly tried to speed off.
Cory Lee Hamilton, 30, of Lawrenceville, is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, Violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act and DUI.
Reports say that Hamilton was approached by a 48-year-old woman in the parking lot of the restaurant, who asked him to move his vehicle because he was blocking hers.
Hamilton allegedly became agitated at the request and witness statements say he began yelling and cussing at the woman and proceeded to speed off.
In the process, he struck the woman with his vehicle, injuring her right knee and shoulder; hit the woman’s car and left the scene while driving recklessly onto Seventh Street.
The woman followed Hamilton and at Sixth Street, reports say that Hamilton sped through a stop sign nearly hitting a police vehicle.
After being stopped, Hamilton was asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests and to take a Breathalyzer test.
He was unable to perform the test properly.
Hamilton also had marijuana on his person and in his vehicle, according to police.
The woman who was struck was assisted by Emergency Medical Services and released at the scene.
