A man who allegedly caused a scene at the Winder Huddle House with Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies on March 11 ended up behind bars after allegedly leaving the restaurant without paying for his meal.
Michael Wayne Morris, Winder, was asked by deputies to leave the restaurant after Huddle House employees requested that the deputies confront Morris due to his erratic behavior.
A server told deputies that Morris had been at the counter from about 1 a.m. to 1:45 a.m. and was acting very strange and was making her nervous.
She had asked Morris to not smoke after he lit a cigarette and the report states that a few minutes later Morris lit another cigarette inside of the smoke-free building. That’s when deputies confronted him.
Deputies noticed a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and his eyes looked to be red and glassy.
Morris told deputies he would leave when his dad came to pick him up and he was told to go ahead and call his dad because the staff was requesting that he leave.
Morris then became aggressive, getting "very loud" and "getting out of his seat."
At that point Morris began yelling obscenities at the deputies and said that his dad worked with Jud’s (Sheriff Jud Smith) dad.
"You know who Jud is don’t you?" Morris allegedly asked the deputies.
He began to leave the building and when deputies asked if he was going to pay, the report states he became angry and stated "for a ... cup of coffee?"
The waitress told deputies that Morris had eaten a meal and some other items.
Morris then left and when deputies tried to stop him he began yelling profanities again.
Morris was placed under arrest at that time and was charged with theft of service and disorderly conduct.
The incident report states that Morris was uncooperative during the booking process and had to be placed into a restraint chair and secluded for his safety.
