Being the lone female in a household full of boys can be a taxing environment for any woman, that’s one of the reasons Robin Sosbee, owner and founder of Signature Escentuals, started a business that caters to pampering women, but that’s not the only reason.

"I started off involving myself with this because I believe in aromatherapy," Sosbee said. "I suffered from migraine headaches really bad and I got into making my own aromatherapy infused bath salts for my migraines and I thought, ‘you know, if I like this, somebody else would like this,’" she said. "I’ve researched all my products and my bath salts are Pacific Ocean-solar-evaporated bath salts ... so no heat has been added to the salts ... they harvest the water, they filter it where it’s 99 percent microbiology-free, so there is no plant life or animal life in them," said Sosbee.

Sosbee has been selling her products for about a year and she calls the company "Signature Escentuals" because the products can be combined or personalized to meet different individual needs.

"I encourage my customers to combine the different scented sea salts," she explained.

The bath salts come in 20 different scents that can be mixed together to make "signature" scents for individual customers.

The bath salts are also infused with vitamin E and Aloe, along with essential oils. Some of the scents available include raspberry, cool citrus basil, mango and citrus.

"It’s so moisturizing," Sosbee said. "They are phenomenal ... the salt is straight evaporated from the salt water in the ocean so it holds its chemical integrity, so it’s very similar to dead sea salts," Sosbee explained. But, it’s a United States product, that’s what I like about it."

Sosbee works closely with the company in California that designs and produces her product.

"As far as the percentage of essential oils, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E and artificial coloring," she said.

Sosbee also carries a detox bath salt that is a dead sea salt, but also has bentonite clay, juniper seed extract, grapefruit seed extract, organic kelp and organic green tea.

"It’s great for detoxing the body," she said. "When you’ve had a cold or you have been on antibiotics or if you’re a smoker, it helps to pull toxins out of your skin, it will actually leave a ring around the bathtub of the toxins that it pulls out ... if you’ve ever used a clay mask on your face, it’s the same kind of principal."

Some other products Signature Escentuals carries include body lotions, shower gels, detox soap and bar soap.

"I also have a product that’s a strawberry seed body scrub that’s only available through me," Sosbee said. "It’s made locally in Grayson ... and it’s natural based, POBA free (a preservative sometimes found in cosmetics), it contains three different oils and shea butter along with strawberry seeds. I go down to the lab and deal with them directly when they make it," she said.

Sosbee said the body scrubs are a huge sale item for her.

"When I go out to the festivals I usually sell out of the body scrubs," she said. "They are so wonderful... there are no artificial fragrances in it, it smells like freshly-washed strawberries."

Some of the bar soap scents available include bay rum (a more masculine scent), cucumber melon, french pear, country cotton (a crisp, clean scent), and cool citrus basil, which also has matching bath salts.

There are handmade olive oil bar soaps that Sosbee says are extremely moisturizing. "They are also phenomenal," she said.

All items are sold individually or by gift basket.

Baskets can be custom made with novelty items added per request, such as journals, candy or any other personal items that customers prefer to add for a special touch.

Sosbee suggests the baskets for new moms, wedding gifts, birthdays, anniversaries, Valentines Day, Christmas or any other special occasion.

Another idea is to give a basket to someone who may be struggling with a tragedy or death in the family this season.

Sosbee sat among a stack of advanced-ordered gift baskets for Christmas that she said are personalized and ready for shipping. One of the baskets had a palm tree theme and included a journal and other items with palm trees on it.

"That one is shipping to Florida," she said.

Another idea, for the tea-lover in your life, would be to fill a tea pot with bath salts. Sosbee is open to suggestions in adding that extra special touch to each basket.

"I haven’t had anyone propose yet," she said. "But I have had someone put a gift certificate to a spa in one ... and one gentleman added a bottle of champagne to a basket he purchased."

Sosbee gets most of her business through word of mouth.

The community has really been supportive and I’ve done quite a few local festivals, Braselton, Auburn, Statham, and I’ve done ... well. No advertisement except word of mouth and the festivals," she said.

Gift baskets can be purchased by advanced order through Sosbee. The website is currently under construction, but orders can be purchased by phone at (770) 725-1292 or by E-mail at sigescentuals@hotmail.com.

Her products can also be found at Tiffs Hair Salon, Statham, and Ham and Jam Creations, Winder.

"I enjoy being with people ... I do home shows where I bring in my bath salts and a variety of body lotions, shower gels, salts and soaps. I also bring in samples of the body scrubs," she said.

Sosbee feels that her business is a gift that she can give to other women. A gift of aromatherapy and relaxation.

"And I enjoy making those gift baskets so much," she said. "It’s fun for me, and I wouldn’t do anything that wasn’t fun."
